Meet Cedric Saltwater, sailor, storyteller and firm believer that horizontal stripes are always appropriate.
Cedric has spent more years at sea than he cares to remember. He claims to have sailed around the world twice, wrestled an octopus off the coast of Cornwall and once shared a pot of tea with a mermaid. How much of this is true is anyone’s guess… Cedric never lets the facts get in the way of a good story.
Handmade and hand-painted in my Shropshire studio, Cedric is a wonderfully characterful ceramic vase with his striped sailor top, tattoo inspired illustrations and rather magnificent beard. His little sailor's head forms the vase opening, ready for a few favourite stems, dried flowers or simply to sit looking handsome on a shelf.
Turn him around and you'll discover more hand-drawn details, because Cedric is far too interesting to have a boring backside.
Why is Cedric a Super Second?
Cedric had a slightly eventful final voyage through the kiln. There are areas of overglazing, some smudging and places where the glaze hasn't taken quite as intended. I've photographed these imperfections so you can see them clearly.
They don't affect his ability to sit on a shelf looking marvellous, but they do mean he doesn't meet my usual standards for a full-priced piece, so Cedric is joining the Super Seconds Festival instead.
As with all handmade ceramics, little variations and quirks are part of the making process and make every piece completely unique.
Perfect for: lovers of quirky ceramics, nautical interiors, unusual vases, characterful homeware and handmade pieces with a story to tell.
Flowers not included, although Cedric would probably tell you he picked them himself somewhere in the South Pacific. ⚓️🌿
Please note that there are two of this design available, please select carefully which Cedric you would like. Remember, when he's gone, he's gone!
